In late 2023, Hatsan introduced a new pump-action bullpup to the U.S. market. If you liked that idea, but you thought you’d like it a lot more if it was semi-auto, then we have good news for you: That’s exactly what Hatsan is bringing to the States now, with the new BullTac SA shotgun.

Hatsan @ TFB:

Not their first rodeo

If you’ve been paying attention here for a while, you will remember this isn’t Hatsan’s first bullpup semi-auto for the U.S. market. Back in 2020, Hatsan introduced its VTS-series shotguns, in 12 gauge and .410.

And of course, there was also the first BullTac model, introduced last fall as a pump-action. That pump gun only came in 12 gauge, with a 5+1 shell capacity.

The latest model

Hatsan doesn’t tell us what, exactly is different about the new BullTac SA, when compared to the VTS series. Obviously, the exterior is different, but what about the internals? We’re not told but we do know that the new SA model comes in 12 gauge, 20 gauge and .410. That’s more choice than the old VTS model and a lot more choice than the pump-action BullTac.

All the BullTac SA models come with an 18-inch barrel, which gives them all a 27.75-inch length (cylinder choke, chrome-plated bore). All versions are chambered for 3-inch shells and come with a 5+1 capacity. The weight for the 12 gauge model is 7 pounds; the 20 gauge weighs 6.8 pounds, and the .410 weighs 6.7 pounds. All versions come with an adjustable rear sight and a fixed front sight. The receiver itself is aluminum alloy, which keeps down the weight.

Lefties may be unhappy to find that this shotgun has a non-reversible safety.

Hatsan’s website lists no U.S.-market MSRP, but does have a few more details if you’re interested—see here.
