The US state of Wyoming is finalizing plans to build a major shooting complex. This new facility is planned for the Cody area and will incorporate numerous ranges for various shooting disciplines. Keep reading to see the publicly available details.

Ranges@ TFB:

According to a story from Wyoming Public Media, the process started with the state legislature in 2023. The facility is anticipated to be over 2,000 acres in size. The groundbreaking should take place sometime in 2025, with a soft opening in 2026. Some aspects, like the access road and final funding, are still being worked out.

A detailed planning document about the shooting complex is posted on the Forward Cody website. The planners intentionally selected a site with a lot of natural topography. The “High Terrain Rifle” facility incorporates many hills and valleys and seems like it would be a great fit for NRL Hunter competition. Other range facilities include pistol bays and a 600-yard range with electronic targets. Also, an indoor smallbore, air rifle, and archery range will probably be popular given the cold winters in the area.

Hopefully this new facility comes to fruition, and maybe (just maybe) we will see some other states follow suit to create their own range complexes.

From the state:

“The Wyoming State Shooting Complex spans roughly 2,000 acres of scenic state land, just 7.5 miles south of Cody along Highway 120 a quick 10-minute drive from town. Nestled in two parallel valleys, the site offers varied terrain, natural buffers and 360-degree mountain views; overall, a “blank canvas” for development. Planned facilities include a 16,000-square-foot event center, modern technology range, pistol/flex bays, long-range bays, two sporting clay ranges, 3-D archery range, six skeet fields, ten trap fields, high terrain rifle/configurable space, and indoor archery, air rifle, and small bore ranges.”
