The Story
Being prepared for anything really means being prepared for ANYTHING. You may think of preparing for self-defense against someone with a gun, a knife, or a blunt object. What about someone with a normal, non-threatening item such as an electrical cord? Or something as innocuous as a cardboard box? One woman learned that these things can be used as weapons.
TN Woman Assaulted with Power Cord and Flaming Pop Tart Box
A 30-year-old man is accused of assaulting a woman with a burning Pop Tart box before wrapping a power tool cord around her neck. The attacker is charged with aggravated assault.
Police say an argument between Cox and the woman turned physical. Cox then allegedly walked over to the woman’s car, lit a Pop Tart box on fire and threw it at her, burning her right arm.
He then reportedly wrapped a cord from a power tool around her neck and tried to strangle her. When she got free, police say he hit her several times in the face with his fist.”

What Can We Learn?
The victim suffered injuries from a burning box and a power cord. If there is anything I would like you to take away from this is that ANYTHING can be used as a weapon and ANYTHING in your vicinity can be used as a tool for self-defense. You may think that a self-defense tool has to be a gun, a knife, pepper gel, or another typical tool. These are great options but not the only options. If you find yourself in need of a self-defense tool, use whatever is in your reach. A lamp, a heavy coffee mug, anything you can physically handle can be useful!
