There are so many ways to practice self-care. It is becoming one of the things that is synonymous with being a happy and healthy person. Something that many don’t think about is using awareness and training as self-care. What if you come across someone who means you harm and you have taken the time to train yourself to fight back? That, to me, is the epitome of self-care.
Woman Fights off Attacker in the Park
“A woman fought a stranger off Wednesday as he tried to rape her along a popular Charlotte greenway, and police asked the public for help finding the assailant. The attacker has injuries to his face and hands from struggling with the victim in McAlpine Creek Greenway in east Charlotte, Capt. Jim Wright of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said at a news conference.
The woman was assaulted just before 11:15 a.m. between Independence Boulevard and Margaret Wallace Road, Wright said. She was walking in the greenway when the man attacked her from behind, Wright said.

What Can We Learn?
Always. Be. Aware. Don’t wear headphones and keep your eyes up. This woman escaped the attempted sexual assault by fighting back. She saw the man and was ready for him. She also wasn’t afraid to take her safety into her own hands. When you are able to come out of a situation like this with bruises and scrapes you should be proud of yourself. You may not come out of the attack unscathed, mentally or physically, but you can survive and avoid the worst case scenario if you fight.
