Right Handed

What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

The X-Five Legion was the sexiest one in the lineup of pistols I tried out during a shoot-n-move exercise. It stood out, like Rip Wheeler in a flattering patriotic t-shirt standing in the corner of my gun shop. I tried my damnedest not to look at it, due to my history with Sigs, but the ergonomic, non-slip grip, the easy to rack slide, quick loading flared well, and its heavy weight just demanded attention.

Tell us about shooting this gun.

During the exercise, I got to run through the drill multiple times with Glocks and Sigs, since those were the two most commonly used pistols by service members. When I shot this pistol, I didn’t need all the shots in my magazine, as I did with the other pistols. I just had to line up the vivid fiber optic sights and boom, body and head shot = targets down. This Sig was the only pistol, even compared to the P320, that actually shot true.

How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?

This is probably one of the heaviest pistols I’ve tried out. Due to the 43.5oz and exaggerated beavertail, recoil is practically nonexistent, as long as you’re choking the yoke of the grip, it sits perfectly balanced between you and your target, which makes getting back on target not a challenge.

How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)

The grip is slightly too thick for me to reach the magazine release with my thumb, so I have to bring up my left hand to push the button, release the magazine and load another. I have arthritis in my left hand and that’s the hand I have to rack the slide. It’s a pleasure to pull the slide back. Not only that, locking it back is just as easy. Compared to my M&P EZ Shield, the slide racks equally as easy if not smoother and the locking portion is easier than the M&P. Trigger pull is a sweet 5lbs and I’ve shot it off the reset and that was an amazing feeling!

Do you like the sights on this gun?

I absolutely love the sights that came with the pistol. I think I ruined it by adding Sig’s Romeo1 Pro red dot. It takes me a bit longer to attain my target after a shot with the red dot than it does with the original iron sights.

How reliable is it?

Extremely reliable. Point, shoot and expect the shot to go where you point.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

No problem with any store-bought brass.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

After reading the instruction manual that came with the pistol, taking down, cleaning and putting it back together was a breeze. Again, compared to my EZ Shield, this was much easier.

Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?

I honestly do not dislike anything about this pistol. However, due to my small hands (3″ w x 7″h), I would likely trim the grip so I could reach the mag release with my thumb.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

Just like most Sigs, don’t let the price turn you away. I lost confidence in Sigs awhile back when it let me down time and again. I actually wanted a Glock to work for me, but this Sig checked off everything I needed, all I wanted and performed perfectly. The X-Five comes with three 17-round magazines, while the DH3 comes with three 21-round FDE magazines. I have put more than a thousand rounds through this baby and love it more and more. Due to it’s weight, I had to return many holsters and found two that distributed the weight perfectly, Safariland and Kenai. This is NOT a conceal carry pistol. This is an OWB, take-me-to-the-field, please-don’t-baby-me type of pistol.

Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?

Resounding YES! I loved this gun so much, I bought the DH3 because of its FDE color and extended mag.
