What features does this gun have that appealed to you?

The Glock 26 (Gen 5) or “Baby Glock” has a lot of great features packed into a very small package. The finger grooves on the Gen 5 have been removed making the grip more user friendly. The Gen 5 came with 3 ten-round magazines and 4 backstraps (two with beavertail and two without). These allow a very nice customization of the grip for a more tailored fit to each individual’s hand. The grip texture on the Glock 26 Gen 5 is also quite nice when compared to the Gen 3 or Gen 4.

Tell us about shooting this gun.

I truly enjoy shooting this gun. However, there are a few things to note here. The first is that it takes a bit of practice to become accurate with this gun. It’s sub-compact size makes it a bit more difficult to shoot accurately. The slide is very stiff on the Gen 5 model. Older shooters or shooters with weaker hands due to injuries or arthritis may find this gun a bit of a challenge. Using a proper grip and technique when racking the slide really help make the slide less of a challenge.

How would you describe the recoil, is it manageable?

Recoil with the Glock 26 Gen 5 is minimal due to the dual recoil spring and the slightly heavier weight of the gun when compared with other sub-compact guns.

How does it fit your hand, are the controls of this gun easy to use? (Safeties, slide pull, magazine release, trigger pull, etc.)

I have larger hands so the short, stubby grip was a bit of a challenge for me. I also have arthritis in both hands so the slide stop and slide lock were a bit difficult.

I made a couple of slight modifications and now have the perfect concealed carry gun.

Do you like the sights on this gun?

The sights on this gun are great. It is very easy to acquire the target.

How reliable is it?

It’s a Glock. I’ve fired hundreds of rounds of all types of ammo through it. It never fails to fire.

Any problems with any type of ammunition?

During the COVID pandemic, ammo was very difficult to find. I purchased whatever was available and the Baby Glock chewed it up and spit it out without a problem.

Was it easy to take down and clean?

Glocks are extremely simple to take down and clean.

Is there anything you dislike about shooting this gun?

No. I really like this gun.

For someone considering this gun, what would you tell them?

I would give the same advice that I give for purchasing any gun. Go to a range and rent the gun. Try it. Make notes about the things that you like and do not like. Then make an informed decision. Many ranges have a “ladies day” where female clients can pay a small fee to rent multiple guns. Shoot the Glock 26 and then shoot some other sub-compacts. Make an informed decision.

Would you recommend this gun? If no, do you have a preferred gun?

I would definitely recommend this gun.
